Mountain bongo
A mountain-forest antelope endemic to Kenya. Remaining animals are found across four ecosystems, with recovery work focused on Mount Kenya and Mau Eburu.
Recovery uses camera traps and GIS with community teams, alongside captive-breeding partners. Published figures for remaining wild mountain bongo have been given as fewer than 100, and as about 80.
Partners include Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Forest Service, Wilder Institute / Calgary Zoo, Bongo Surveillance Project, Mt. Kenya Trust, Eburru Rafiki, and community forest associations at Eburu, Ragati and Chehe.
